My name is Mr Ryan Thomas. I’m a Welsh writer, composer and producer. I tell stories through words, music and sound.
For most of my adult life, I worked in corporate and strategic communications. But in 2021, at the age of 39, I was diagnosed with stage 3C colorectal cancer. This became stage 4 in 2024. Thankfully, in 2025 I achieved a status of “no evidence of disease”.
Given this reprieve, I dedicated myself to fulfilling a creative ambition: an uncompromising audio-first suite bringing together my writing, music and sound production.
And so, in November 2026, I published Zero Point Elegies: Volume One. This audio anthology draws on my experiences of cancer treatment and recovery through speculative fiction, songs, and expansive soundtracks.
From Zero Point Elegies also comes my first single, “I’m Your Father”: a small ode that tells my beloved son a little of who I was when I wrote it. It is backed with “Ballad of a Convalescent”, an atmospheric drone I composed while on chemo and hidden from the world on my 41st birthday.
I am a working-class Welsh speaker from the Rhondda, born in 1982, and have lived in Asia for more than a decade. I’m a huge fan of the Cymru football team and a reluctant follower of post-rebrand Cardiff City.
I enjoy “middlebrow” media (Aaron Sorkin, Breaking Bad) the dark and absurd (Kafka, Andy Kaufman) and science fiction.
My love of all things audio is profound and extensive. Music is my first love, from the Beatles to Stax Records to Shostakovich. Then, during my long illness, I may have consumed every publicly available radio play and audio drama ever made!
The defining role of my life is that of father. I am a proud dad to one son, who gives me more joy and purpose than he will ever know.
At the time of writing, there is still no evidence of disease, and I’m eager to fully connect with the world again. If you’d like to get in touch – about my projects, working together, or just for a chat – I would love to hear from you.
